Livestream and Virtual Auction Event to Support Make Waves Music Education Initiative

Friends! Our inaugural (virtual) auction is approaching! On Friday, April 16, 2021 at 7:00pm PDT, you will have the opportunity to bid on an amazing variety of unique items, to listen to the sweet stylings of Moorea Masa, greaterkind, Stephanie Anne Johnson, and Mimi Naja, all while supporting #EquityInMusic through our music education initiative, Make Waves!

Through auctioned items and donations, we hope to raise $5,000 toward this programming, and if we can go above and beyond, we could even seed next year’s iteration of Make Waves!

Here’s a little information about what your generosity will be supporting:

Make Waves is a groundbreaking model from Musicians In Solidarity which aims to breathe new life into existing music programs designed to reach underserved communities through funding, community outreach, and staffing for diversity. In music education, as in all areas of education, there is a racial gap. Make Waves prioritizes the value of students having the opportunity to learn from BIPOC educators through:

  • diversifying staff through recruitment of BIPOC music educators to hire permanently
  • supporting the costs of hiring new staff by funding year-long scholarships for new students, and
  • providing our partner music schools with new visibility in the underserved communities they were designed to reach.

In partnership with Ethos Music Center and the Dana Thompson Memorial Fund of Awesome, Make Waves hopes to provide 20-year-long scholarships to students, provide them the technology they need to succeed in a virtual-learning environment, as well as provide instruments for each student.
